It was a fight that many boxing followers had been looking forward to as Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi defeated Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai to win the South African lightweight title at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday evening.
Komanisi, a former SA featherweight champion, started very well taking the fight to Munyai in the first three rounds.
Munyai only started to fight in the fourth round. However, Komanisi came back in the fifth round.
From round six, where Munyai dropped Komanisi, the Makwarela-born boxer began once again to engage his opponent.
It then became a cagey affair as both boxers were somewhat cautious carefully choosing when and how to engage properly.
In the end, Komanisi became a two-time SA champion as he defeated Munyai, who was seeking a successful fourth defence of the national title.
