Kaizer Chiefs have reached the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup after they overcame Maritzburg United 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening.

After the two sides drew goalless in 90 minutes, the match went into extra time and Christian Saile Basomboli netted for Amakhosi in the 92nd minute. Basomboli from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who scored his first goal since joining Chiefs last month, received a yellow card after taking his shirt off while celebrating the goal.

Following a number of misses Ashley du Preez finally scored to make it 2-0 following a cross from Happy Mashiane in the 113th minute.

The Team of Choice finished the match with 10 men after referee Abongile Tom sent their captain Travis Graham an early shower for a second bookable offence in the 37th minute. The former Ajax Cape Town man received his first yellow card after a foul on Yusuf Maart in the 18th minute.

Even despite being a man short, the Team of Choice held on for dear life as they thwarted attack after attack from Chiefs.
