AmaZulu survive a late scare as they defeated Northern Cape amateur side Tornado FC 3-2 in a Nedbank Cup last-32 encounter at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban, on Sunday afternoon.

Usuthu took an early lead in the eighth minute when their captain Mbongeni Gumede opened the scoring with a header. Malawian international Gabadinho Mhango increased Usuthu’s lead in the 25th minute after he received a cross from Guilly Manziba. 

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Bonginkosi Ntuli netted Usuthu’s third goal following an assist from Mxolisi Kunene in the 63rd minute. 

Tornado scored twice in a space two minutes with Mario Katz netting their first goal in the 78th minute and Kenneth Dupane made it 3-2 a minute later.
