Chippa United became the last team to reach the second round of the Nedbank Cup following a 3-1 win over Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday evening.
The match was decided on penalties after the two teams had played to a 1-1 stalemate in two hours of football. The Chilli Boys converted three penalties and failed on two occasions. On the other hand, Rise and Shine converted once and missed three times.
A mix-up in the Chilli Boys defence after Meshack Maphangule’s back pass resulted in Rise and Shine taking the lead in the third minute after Francis Baloyi beat Stanley Nwabali in goals.
The Chilli Boys levelled matters following Thabiso Lebitso’s individual brilliance as he sliced through the Motsepe Foundation Championship side’s defence in the 12th minute.
