Boxing South Africa (BSA) on Thursday announced the allocation of the first five dates for live boxing tournaments as per its memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the SABC towards the end of last year.
Gauteng is going to host the first live tournament on Friday, 21 April and followed by Limpopo a week later. The Eastern Cape will get to host a tournament on Friday, 26 May and KwaZulu-Natal on the 30th of June with the 28th of July earmarked for a tournament in Cape Town.
“Boxing SA is delighted to announce that the implementation of the BSA and SABC MOU has begun,” BSA said in a statement on Thursday morning.
Tournaments for August, September, October, November as well as the first three months of 2024 have not been allocated to provinces yet.
“In terms of the MOU, the broadcasting dates will be allocated to various provinces, which means that at least all provinces will have an opportunity to host a boxing tournament. Promoters have already been invited to bid for the first five dates in order to ensure that the tournaments are prepared well in time and that there is sufficient time to manage all the activities attendant to the hosting of a tournament,” the BSA statement further said.
