The body of Ghana-born Hatayspor winger Christian Atsu was retrieved from the rubble on Saturday almost two weeks after Türkiye was hit by an earthquake.

Previously, it was stated that Atsu had been found alive only to discover that that was a mistake, which was corrected by Hatayspor.

“It’s with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning. My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support,” Atsu’s agent Nana Sechere said on Twitter.

Atsu, 31, represented the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil and played in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
