Family members of hospitalised South African boxer and former world champion Ludumo Lamati are going to travel to Belfast, Northern Ireland, to be at his bedside.
This was revealed to Ink Sport by Lamati’s sister Belinda as the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight champion is still admitted at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Lamati was hospitalised after he collapsed in his corner following a 12th round stoppage loss to Briton Nick Ball in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title fight at the SSE Arena last Saturday.
“My mom Joyce and Ludumo’s girlfriend Chay are going to leave for Northern Ireland next week. They should have left by now, but got delayed because my mom is yet to get her passport. At least, mom is relieved after speaking to Ludumo on a video call on Friday evening. Ludumo could hear us, but couldn’t respond as his voice is still gone,” Belinda said.
Belinda added that Lamati’s manager Larry Wainstein and his trainer Phumzile ‘Sweet Chocolate’ Matyhila are also going to fly to Belfast.
