Al Ahly are going to take a slender lead to Casablanca, Morocco, next weekend after they defeated Wydad Athletic Club 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils took the lead when South African international Percy Tau sent the stadium into a frenzy with a brilliant header past Wydad goalkeeper Youssef El Motie into the net off Hussein Elshahat’s cross on the stroke of half-time.
Wydad started the second half brightly, taking the match to the Red Devils as they searched for an equaliser. However, it was the Egyptians who scored when Mahmoud Kahraba made it 2-0 in the 59th minute following a cross from Elshahat.
The Moroccans didn’t give up as they were trailing by two goals and their forays into the Al Ahly territory bore fruit when second half substitute Saifeddine Bouhra scored a beautiful goal in the 86th minute.
