Boxing South Africa (BSA) has amended the list of nominees for the South African Boxing Awards following the lodging of disputes after the regulator had announced the lists on Wednesday last week.
The Promoter of the Year category, which initially had three nominees, now has five following the addition of Xaba Promotions and Starline Boxing Promotions. The other promotional outfits in the category are TLB Boxing Promotions, ESPN Africa Boxing Promotions and Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions.
Other amendments were made in the Trainer of the Year, Male Fight of the Year, Male Knockout of the Year, Female Prospect of the Year, Female Fight of the Year, Matchmaker of the Year, Ring Announcer of the Year and Reporter of the Year categories.
A new category – Aspiring Promoter of the Year – was created with HLE Jobe, Linda Saliwa, Larry Wainstein, Happy Tewo, Modipapi Kgasago and Nomvelo Magcaba-Shezi vying for the gong.
The awards are making a come back to the SA boxing calendar after an absence of four years. The last SA Boxing Awards ceremony was held at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, in May 2019.
This year’s awards ceremony is going to be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on Friday, 30 June.
