The Eastern Cape lived up to its Mecca of Boxing moniker as it had more tournaments compared to the other eight provinces during the 2022/23 financial year.
According to Boxing South Africa (BSA) director of operations Mandla Ntlanganiso, the Eastern Cape had 27 shows followed by Gauteng on 26 and KwaZulu-Natal was a distant third with 13 of the overall 86 tournaments.
Financial assistance from the provincial government has proved to be the main catalyst in making sure that the Eastern Cape reclaimed its top spot in South African boxing.
Three provinces – Western Cape, Limpopo and Northern West had four tournaments each while the Free State and the Northern Cape hosted three shows each and Mpumalanga had two.
