History-making Razell Mohamed is bracing herself for a tough fight when she trades leather with New Zealander Te Arani Moaratana ‘Lani’ Daniels in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday.
Mohamed is going to make history by becoming the first South African female boxer to challenge for the world heavyweight title when she fight against Daniels at the Eventfinda Stadium, Auckland. The 35-year-old Daniels’ International Boxing Federation (IBF) female heavyweight title is going to be at stake in the fight against Mohamed.
Mohamed is heavier than her opponent after she tipped the scales at 89,7 kilograms and Daniels weighed in at 81kg during the official weigh-in on Friday.
“Of course, it’s definitely not gonna be an easy fight. She obviously wants to retain her title, I obvious wanna take it. So we’re gonna give each other hell,” the Ankervas Primary School teacher said.
“I take a lot from my martial art background. There are other things that I use that I incorporate into my boxing as well. There are some variations to my boxing that are a bit different to what you normally see.”
The 34-year-old Mohamed goes to the Daniels fight with an unbeaten record of three wins and two draws while her opponent has eight victories, two losses and two draws.
Meanwhile, Malawian boxer Ellen ‘Tigress’ Simwaka clashes with Mea Motu in an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) female junior-featherweight title fight in the same tournament.
