That no one from Boxing South Africa (BSA) went to see off Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga at the OR Tambo International Airport when he left for Monaco does not sit well with the boxer’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan.
The award-winning boxing trainer strongly believes that BSA should at least have sent someone to speak to Nontshinga before they departed for Monaco. Sadly, that never happened despite acting BSA chief executive officer Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole wishing Nontshinga good luck after the boxer had already left South Africa.
Nontshinga clashes with Mexican opponent Adrian Curiel Dominguez in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title contest at the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco on Saturday.
“BSA snubbed Sive. None of them had the decency to go to the airport before we left for Monaco. We received no support from the commission. I’m sure they would have been there at the airport early had the SABC said it was gonna bring cameras. Actually, I don’t want anything to do with BSA. I have no time for them,” Nathan said.
Nontshinga, who is unbeaten in 12 fights with nine knockouts, will be making the second defence of his title against the 24-year-old Dominguez.
The 24-year-old Nontshinga defeated Filipino boxer Regie ‘Filipino Phenom’ Suganob on points in his first title defence at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) four months ago.
