With him being rated number three in the November ratings, two-time South African champion Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi is going to use his fight against Kaine Fourie to claw his way back to national lightweight title contention.
Komanisi, who lost his SA lightweight title to Khaya Busakwe after he dislocated his shoulder in March this year, clashes with Fourie in an eight rounds bout at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 25 November.
The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight, SA featherweight and lightweight champion will be hoping to bounce back with a win over the unbeaten Fourie.
“This is a very important fight for both of us. The number one spot is what we will be fighting for. My aim is to fight against Busakwe should I win this fight,” Komanisi said.
Fourie, an African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC lightweight champion, has won five times and drawn twice with his most recent win being a third round technical knockout victory over Zimbabwean boxer Lancelot Moyo in Turffontein, Johannesburg, in July.
“I have seen his record that he’s unbeaten in seven fights. That’s not a problem. I’m continuing to prepare as if I’m going to fight against an SA champion,” Komanisi remarked.
