South African title contender and Eastern Cape female flyweight champion Owethu Rula is going to fight under Xaba Promotions for two years as she hopes to take her boxing career a step further.

Rula, who has won twice and lost once this year, is scheduled to fight for the fourth time this year as she will be challenging Nozwelethu Mathontsi for her SA female junior-flyweight title in a Xaba Promotions tournament in East London on Saturday, 16 December.

“We have signed a contract with Xaba Promotions. Owethu is going to have five fights under Xaba Promotions for two years. This was an agreement between Aphile Promotions and Xaba Promotions. If Owethu wins against Mathontsi next month, she will then have another fight in February,” Rula’s trainer-cum-manager Caiphus Ntante revealed.

The fact that the 25-year-old Rula is going to fight under Xaba Promotions does not in any way mean that she will have to ditch Ntante’s Caiph Camp in Gqeberha and relocate to East London.

“Everything was explained and we have agreed that there will be no interference from them. There will be no changes in management,” Ntante said.

Rula, who is fresh from a stunning first round stoppage win over Namhla Mankayi from Mdantsane at the Wells Estate Multipurpose Hall in Gqeberha last month, lost on points when she challenged Mathontsi at the Orient Theatre in East London in August.
