Sharadene Fortuin’s fight against Iranian boxer Nastaran Fathi, which was due to have taken place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Saturday, was called off on the eleventh hour.

Seymour-born Fortuin and Fathi were scheduled to fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Gold female junior-featherweight title.

“Unfortunately, circumstances have forced our hand to cancel the event. Our profound and immense apologies to the fighters, coaches and their teams. Furthermore, we extend this to our sponsors and officiating personnel involved, please pardon this last minute adversity,” a statement from RSG management said.

Fortuin’s trainer-cum-manager Lonki Witbooi said: “Due to an unexpected turn of events the tournament in which we were supposed to be fighting had to be cancelled. However, on the brighter side, the fight between Sharadene Shee-Nzow Fortuin and Nastaran Fathi and its status remain intact and will be moved to a date to be announced once all arrangements are put back in place. Thank you all so much, your support for Sharadene has been amazing and she will still need you to rally behind her once again when the new date is announced.”

The fight was going to be co-promoted by Tioa Desiree Vitale and Iranian businessman Payam Honari.
