Given space and time to perform his duties as acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive officer, Mandla Ntlanganiso would love to see boxers reaping rich financial rewards under his watch.
In the midst of bellicose promoters, who are hellbent on making sure that he does not succeed in his job, Ntlanganiso has called for boxers to be the main financial beneficiaries going forward.
Some South African boxers have suffered immensely as a result of a few unscrupulous promoters, who only look after themselves. And if Ntlanganiso has his way, then that’s going to come to an end.
“The central and the main stakeholder is the boxer. That needs to be clear. Without fear or favour, boxers must be the biggest winners and highest financial beneficiaries in the sport of boxing,” Ntlanganiso said.
Ntlanganiso, who joined BSA as its director of operations in January 2022, believes that a change in attitude will be key to the success of boxing in South Africa.
“As we enter the new year, as the management of Boxing South Africa currently charged with managing boxing we are assuming a positive and futuristic posture. And that’s going to be our attitude going forward,” Ntlanganiso remarked.
“We talk positivity, we talk growth, we talk the future of boxing in this country. We will not allow anything to defocus us, dragging us back to the past. We call on all stakeholders within the boxing fraternity. We call our boxers, who are our main stakeholders, we call our managers, we call our ring officials, we call our promoters, we call our matchmakers, we call the broadcasters as well as sponsors to walk this journey with us.”
