Bathabile Ziqubu from Ekuvukeni in Ladysmith will get an opportunity to test her fistic skills against highly-rated Angelina ‘Barbie’ Lukas from Kazakhstan in just over two months’ time.
Ziqubu, who works as an educator, is set to challenge World Boxing Federation (WBF) and WIBF female junior-bantamweight champion Lukas at a tournament, which is going go be held in Cape Town on Friday, 26 July.
The WBF International female junior-bantamweight champion drew with Nosiacwase Dube-Mutavhatsindi in Estcourt in March while Lukas is fresh from a stoppage victory over Indian boxer Mamta Singh in Thailand last month.
Ziqubu, a winner of the 2023 Fight of the Year award, and WBF president Howard Goldberg both confirmed the former South African female junior-bantamweight champion’s fight against Lukas.
