Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile’s chances of dishing out a memorable performance against Martin Ward from Britain have received a major boost after the Duncan Village boxer’s trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye obtained a visa to travel to the United States.
Njekanye obtained his visa on Tuesday, 48 hours after Fuzile and Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) chairman Teris Ntutu flew to the US.
It looked like Njekanye was not going to be in his boxer’s corner after he failed to secure the visa last week despite making two visits to the US Embassy in Cape Town.
Some boxing followers even suspected that there was a conspiracy to leave Njekanye behind in South Africa.
“Finally, I got the visa and I’m very happy. I’m looking at leaving for America on Wednesday. I worked very hard with the boy and it would have been very bad not to be in his corner when he fights in America,” a relieved Njekanye said.
Fuzile faces Ward in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight elimination bout at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, US, on Saturday, 29 May.
The winner of this duel is going to challenge whoever wins between Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov from Tajikistan and Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa, who are set to collide in July.
