The date for reigning South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi’s title defence, which is going to be against Capetonian challenger Abdul-Aziz Kunert has been confirmed.

Batyi will defend his title for the fourth time when he faces Kunert in a rematch of their August 2023 fight at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday, 23 November.

The unheralded Nxarhuni-born Batyi has held the SA title since he stopped former champion Jeff Magagane at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sport Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, in December 2022.

Batyi drew with Kunert at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town, stopped Lucky Hobyane in the eighth round in March and defeated Yamkela Phaliso on points two months ago. Both his fights against Hobyane and Phaliso were held at the Orient Theatre.

Meanwhile, Batyi’s rematch against Kunert is going to be co-promoted by Mzi Booi’s Kay B Promotions and Inathi Boxing Promotions of Pumza Mpulampula.
