More than a year since he last defended his South African lightweight title, Khaya Busakwe is scheduled to put his crown on the line in the Nelson Mandela Bay region next month.
Busakwe, who doesn’t have a promoter, will be making the fourth defence of his title when he meets Mbuyiseli Ndukwana from Knysna, Southern Cape, at the VW People’s Pavilion in Kariega on Saturday, 13 December.
Confirming the fight, Busakwe said: ” I will be defending my title against Ndukwana in the Eastern Cape next month. This fight gives me an opportunity to prove that I can still go forward, especially after what happened in my last fight. I don’t think there’s anyone who can stand on my way now.”
Busakwe’s last defence of the title he won after he defeated Mdantsane boxer Lusanda Komanisi at the Orient Theatre in East London in March 2023 was a 10th round stoppage win over Sinethemba Blom in Midrand in September 2024.
Just over a month ago, Busakwe, who is trained by veteran trainer Norman Hlabane in Soweto, was a victim of a controversial decision, which resulted in him losing to Nigerian boxer Sikiru Shogbesan in Kagiso, Krugersdorp. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
