At least five Eastern Cape-born female boxers are set to feature at a tournament, which is pencilled for the Eyethu Heritage Hall in Mofolo Central, Soweto, early next month.
Headlining the VIP Promotions bill is a Gauteng female super-middleweight title fight between former national champions Rita Mrwebi and Kholosa Ndobayini on Friday, 5 December.
Mthatha-born Mrwebi is a former South African female welterweight champion while Ndobayini from Qumbu once held the SA lightweight crown. Both Mrwebi and Ndobayini qualified to fight for the Gauteng title by virtue of having spent many years living in South Africa’s most populous province.
On the other hand, Azasakhe Jamani from Phumlani, East London, will trade blows with current SA female lightweight titleholder Bonita van Jaarsveldt in an eight rounds non-title contest.
And reigning national female mini-flyweight titlist Thobela Nyanda from Mdantsane will test her fistic skills in an eight rounds duel with Malawian Harriet Mtende.
Meanwhile, Asandiswa Nxokwana, who is originally from Centane, clashes with former SA and World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-featherweight champion Kabisile Tshabalala in a six rounds bantamweight bout.
