Following the collapse of his proposed fight against Ricardo Malajika, Sikho ‘Sequence’ Nqothole is now set to face off against Briton Charlie Edwards in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight elimination bout.
According to Nqothole’s handlers, NO DOUBT Management, reigning International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight champion Malajika withdrew from the clash citing reasons that he will be moving in another direction after initially agreeing to fight against the Mthatha-born boxer.
Nqothole and Edwards, the former World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight champion, have until Tuesday, 17 March, to come to an agreement. Nqothole is rated eighth by the IBF while Edwards is one place below him.
Nqothole’s promoter Larry Wainstein, the chief executive officer at Boxing 5 Promotions, said: “Look, I think Sequence would have beaten Malajika again, but this is a way more high-profile fight. Again, I must say that having listened to the team and seen the record, I think Sequence has a very good chance of beating Edwards.”
Nqothole’s manager Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan from NO DOUBT Management remarked: “I have known each of them for many years and consider them friends. It’s going to be great working with them for this contest, wherever this fight ends up.”
Meanwhile, Edwards is promoted by Nisse and Kalle Sauerland’s MisFits Pro promotional company and managed by Anthony Fitzpatrick.
