Brandon Thysse prevailed over Roarke Knapp as he stopped him in the ninth round at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday evening.

After he was “decked” in the seventh round, Thysse came back stronger as he pummelled Knapp in the eighth round. Seeing that Knapp was vulnerable, Thysse went for the kill in the ninth round and decked his opponent.

Fight referee Thabo Spampool counted Roarke out signalling the end of the bout, which had a R1,2 million jackpot. In the end, Thysse not only defended his South African and World Boxing Council (WBC) junior-middleweight titles, he pocketed R720 000.

Meanwhile, Bryan Thysse and his cousin Gerhard Thysse gave their all as they hammered each other much to the joy of the boxing followers who converged at the Kempton Park venue.

And in the end of the 12 rounds, Bryan retained his SA light-weight title via a split decision. Riaan Janse van Rensburg scored the fight 111-116 in favour of Bryan and Thando Xamlashe had him winning by 112-115 with Mfundo Mvandaba scoring the bout 114-113 for Gerhard.
