Zambian referee Maybin Kante is going to be the third man in the ring when the bell goes to signal the beginning of Filipino boxer Melvin ‘El Gringo’ Jerusalem’s rematch against Siyakholwa Kuse from Mdantsane on Saturday.

Jerusalem’s World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight title will be at stake when the two protagonists collide against each other at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

Kante, who has been a ring official for 13 years now, has, according to Boxrec, refereed in 34 fights and was a judge in 61 bouts.

He will be in good company as South African ring official Thabo Spampool together with Filipino Jerrold Tomeldan as well as David Irving from Northern Ireland are going to be the three judges.

Initially, John Chaggu from Tanzania was the third judge, but he was dropped and replaced by Irving after Team Jerusalem rejected the idea of having two African judges.

The three judges – Spampool, Irving and Tomeldan – are very much experienced having judged in more than 1590 fights.
