Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo fully understands the importance of winning Sunday’s fight against Ghanaian boxer, Michael ‘Black Spider’ Abban, whom he meets in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African junior-bantamweight title fight at the Kalabash Event Complex in Pokuase, Ghana.
Sigqibo will be fighting for the first time since his sixth round technical knockout win over Tanzanian opponent Msabaha Salum Msabaha at the Orient Theatre, KuGompo City, in August last year.
“There’s a lot of interest in this fight. I’m motivated more than before as a win will take my career forward. I’m not taking anything away from Michael, but he must lose this one. I know that he’s going to fight in front of his home fans. He’s a good boxer and is loved by his compatriots,” Sigqibo said.
The two boxers go to their fight with contrasting records as Sigqibo has won three times and lost twice in his last five fights. Abban, meanwhile, has won all his last five fights with stoppages.
Sigqibo goes to the fight carrying a professional record of 19 victories with six knockouts, three defeats and a draw. On the other hand, the Ghanaian southpaw has registered 14 wins with 10 knockouts and one loss. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
