Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo suffered his fourth career loss after he was beaten by Ghanaian opponent, Michael ‘Black Spider’ Abban, at the Kalabash Event Complex in Pokuase, Ghana, during the early hours of Monday morning.
Fighting for the first time since he stopped Tanzanian boxe, Msabaha Salum Msabaha, in august last year, Sigqibo from Duncan Village in KuGompo City lost the World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African junior-bantamweight 10 rounds bout on points.
“I lost on points and that was a fair decision. They didn’t rob me. The boy is good as I said it before. We had our moments even though he played dirty, but he won fair. I’m happy for my performance, I was ready and fit for the fight. Now we get rest and see the next step,” Sigqibo, a former South African junior-bantamweight titlist, said.
After the loss, Sigqibo’s professional record dropped to 19 victories with six knockouts, four defeats and a draw. On the other hand, the Ghanaian southpaw improved to 15 wins with 10 stoppages and a loss.
The 23-year-old Abban, a former Ghanaian junior-bantamweight champion from the capital Accra, has now won six of his last eight fights by stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
