Khayelitsha-based boxer, Kaya Mlata, will get an opportunity to try and stretch his unblemished record when he fights against Tefo Letshigwane from Botswana in an international junior-featherweight bout at Makers Landing, V and A Waterfront, Cape Town, in less than two months’ time.
Having won all his 11 fights, the 26-year-old Mlata, who is originally from KwaBhaca in the Eastern Cape, clashes with Letshigwane on Saturday, 12 December.
“I will be fighting against Tefo Letshikgwane in an eight rounds bout on the 12th of December,” Mlata, who is trained by Felix Venganayi, said.
Already, Mlata has fought and won his last two fights this year. He stopped Hassan Osman Milanzi from Zimbabwe in the seventh round during a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver junior-featherweight title fight last month and registered a sixth round stoppage win over former South African junior-featherweight champion, Bongani Mahlangu, in April.
Meanwhile, Letshigwane is the same boxer who lost by a fourth round technical knockout to Tiisetso Matikinca in Sandton, Johannesburg, in June last year.
Born in Lobatse and based in Tihareseleele, Botswana, Letshigwane will come to the Mlata fight carrying a professional record of nine wins with one knockout and four losses. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
