The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will continue to limit attendance to its matches to 165 people until further notice.
This will be so until the PSL finish consultations with stakeholders regarding the return of fans to the stadiums.
“The executive committee of the PSL met today to deliberate on the amended Disaster Management Act regulations of the 11th of October 2021 and identified matters that require stakeholder engagement and clarification,” a PSL statement said on Wednesday.
The PSL is set to engage the South African Football Association (SAFA) regarding lessons learnt from Tuesday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Bafana Bafana and Ethiopia at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg. Only vaccinated fans were allowed at the Nasrec venue on Tuesday.
The PSL and SAFA are going to look at vaccination messaging, SASREA compliance, ticket allocation, issuing of tickets, access control, seating arrangement, media access and the need to develop a standard procedure to be applied.
“Until further notice, the PSL COVID protocol continues to limit attendance to 165 people required per match,” the statement further said.
According to the statement, the PSL had targeted the MTN8 final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City on Saturday, 30 October, as the ideal match to test the protocols that will be put in place.
Meanwhile, the PSL executive committee is going to meet again in the next seven to 10 days to access the outcome of the consultation process.
