Boxing trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye is trying to put up a brave face after his boxer Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile lost to Kenichi Ogawa from Japan in a world title fight in the United States of America on Sunday morning (South African time).
A dominant Ogawa scored a unanimous points win over Fuzile in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight title contest at the Hulu Theatre in Madison Square Garden, New York City, US.
“Losing is bad. I’m okay, I have to be okay so that I can be able to comfort my boy. I have to be strong for his sake. I want him to be okay by the time we arrive home. Remember, a lot was expected from us,” Njekanye said.
The Duncan Village-based boxing trainer admitted, though, that that was a big stage where they had to deliver.
“It was a very big stage. We are disappointed. It was not easy during and after the fight. Ogawa only relied on his punching power,” Njekanye remarked.
Meanwhile, Njekanye has revealed that they are going to return to East London on Wednesday.
