AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy knows how it feels like to be alone on the bench while coaching, but he is not concerned about that.
Instead, McCarthy, who joined AmaZulu as their mentor after Ayanda Dlamini quit as the club’s head coach early in December, is
concentrating on turning Usuthu into a formidable side.
‘‘Being a coach is the loneliest job in the world. You’ve got your team, but you are all by yourself. This is gonna be a fun team, this
is gonna be an electrifying football playing team,’’ said McCarthy.
Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goal scorer hit the ground running and opened his AmaZulu coaching account with a 3-1 win over Chippa United on Sunday, 20 December.
AmaZulu’s win proved to be a death knell for Lehlohonolo Seema, who was fired by Chilli Boys chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi. Seema has since been appointed as Black Leopards coach Dylan Kerr second
assistant. Kerr’s other assistant is Morgan Shivambu.
McCarthy is now preparing his boys for their next match, which is away to Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Mangaung on Sunday, 10 January. Three days later Usuthu, who are eighth on the DStv Premiership table with nine points from eight matches, will host
Kaizer Chiefs at King’s Park in Durban.
The former Porto striker has a huge task on his hands to make sure that Usuthu finish in the top four at the end of this season as per
club president Sandile Zungu pronouncements on numerous media interviews.
Zungu wants to see a competitive AmaZulu building up to the club’s centenary celebrations in 2032.
