A first half goal by Mamelodi Sundowns defender Brian Onyango was enough to give the Brazilians their sixth win of the season and handed Orlando Pirates their first loss when they beat them 1-0 in a DStv Premiership match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
This was Onyango’s first goal in Brazilians’ colours since joining the Tshwane side from Maritzburg United this season.
The score line could have been worse had the Brazilians not wasted many clear cut chances, especially in the second half.
Saturday’s win ensured that the Brazilians moved to 21 points from nine matches having registered six wins and three draws while the Buccaneers have bagged three victories against four draws.
The Brazilians have scored 17 goals and conceded five this season while the Buccaneers have found the back of the net nine times and leaked seven in eight matches.
Meanwhile, the win ensured that the Brazilians continued their dominance over Pirates since 1985. The two sides have met 72 times with the Brazilians winning 31 matches and the Buccaneers 21 games.
The other 20 matches ended in draws.
