The three points Black Leopards gained after beating Orlando Pirates 2-0 at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon will go a very long way in their fight to move up the DStv Premiership standings.
It took Lidoda Duvha almost 18 years before they beat the Buccaneers in a league match with the last time they scored a win over Pirates being on 1 February 2003.
It is then no wonder that Sunday’s win left Leopards coach Dylan Kerr a happy man as he said that his players played according to his instructions.
‘‘Points is what we needed. Remember when (Ernst) Middendorp said it’s not about the performance, but about the results? I think if you can see how we play, we keep the ball moving and keep possession and rotate the ball with my players nobody can touch us. Unfortunately, with other games we have stepped back, we’ve given possession away,’’ Kerr said.
The fact that Pirates failed to score against Lidoda Duvha left the former Arcadia left wing happy.
‘‘I’m just pleased we kept a clean sheet, but I’m not gonna make any excuses and say they (Pirates) played on Wednesday and we didn’t play,’’ he said.
‘‘We got three or four good chances in the second half. (Mohammed) Anas had two one-on-ones with the ‘keeper. I‘m not gonna blame him, he’s not been playing for months, his confidence is low. On another day he would put them away.’’
Meanwhile man-of-the-match Edwin Gyimah was happy with the outcome of the game as it helped Lidoda Duvha move two places from 16th to 14th on the Premiership table.
‘‘I think it was an interesting game. We fought very well, we fought as a team. Everybody did well. If you check collectively the team has been doing well,’’ said Gyimah
Leopards are going to welcome Cape Town City at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday (17h00) and Pirates will host unbeaten Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium at 17h00 on the same day.
