World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver cruiserweight titlist Thabiso ‘The Rock’ Mchunu is going to challenge WBC champion Ilunga Makabu.
This follows after KwaXimba-born Mchunu outpointed Russian boxer Evgeny Tishchenko at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia, in a tournament, which was promoted by German Titov’s RCC Boxing Promotions on Saturday evening.
Mchunu became the first boxer to beat the 2016 Olympic gold medallist to earn the right to challenge current WBC cruiserweight champion Makabu from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Makabu is based in Johannesburg where he is trained by Damien Durandt. Makabu stopped Mchunu in May 2015.
On the other hand, Cape Town-based boxer Lunga Sitemela suffered his first loss when was outpointed by Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov from Tajikistan. The duo were fighting for the WBC International junior-lightweight title. Sitemela now has one loss against 13 wins while Yaqubov has won all his 17 fights.
Meanwhile, Koos Sibiya lost to Zoravor Petrosian from Ukraine.
