Three South African boxers are going to fight against Russian, Tajikistani and Ukrainian opponents in Russia on Saturday.
World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver cruiserweight champion Thabiso ‘The Rock’ Mchunu is going to clash against Russian boxer Evgeny Tishchenko. KwaXimba-born Mchunu is going to defend his belt against the 29-year-old Russian at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia, in a tournament, which is promoted by German Titov’s RCC Boxing Promotions.
The winner between Mchunu and the 2016 Olympic gold medallist is going to earn a right to challenge current WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Makabu is based in Johannesburg where he is trained by Damien Durandt.
On the other hand, Cape Town-based boxer Lunga Sitemela faces Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov from Tajikistan. They are going to fight for the WBC International junior-lightweight title.
This clash pits two unbeaten boxers with Sitemela having won all his 13 fights while Yaqubov is also yet to lose in 16 bouts.
Meanwhile, Koos Sibiya will come up against Zoravor Petrosian from Ukraine in an eight rounds bout.
