Log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns’ unbeaten run continued when they drew goalless with AmaZulu in a DStv Premiership match at King’s Park in Durban on Wednesday afternoon.
This was a very tactical game as both sides were clearly looking for a win for different reasons. The Brazilians wanted to extend their lead on the Premiership standings while Usuthu were out to close the gap between them and the Tshwane giants.
Normally reliable in front of goal, Peter Shalulile missed an open net in the 77th minute after AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa had thwarted Gift Motupa’s attempt.
Sundowns have collected 47 points after winning 13 times and drawing eight matches. On the other hand, second placed AmaZulu have 41 points following 11 wins, eight draws and four defeats.
The Brazilians took four points off Usuthu after beating the Durban side 4-3 in the first round.
Meanwhile, relegation-haunted Black Leopards earned a valuable point during their 0-0 draw with Stellenbosch FC at the Thohoyandou Stadium.
