Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi is a typical school teacher, who takes no nonsense from errant students, as he calls for respect from his players.
This was clear in what Mngqithi said after the Brazilians gave Orlando Pirates a 3-0 hiding in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday.
The win took Sundowns back to the top of the Premiership standings with 51 points from 24 matches while AmaZulu, who are second placed on the log, have 50 points in 26 outings.
“We played against a very good team, let’s not make a mistake. Pirates is a very good team. When you win, you must win with a lot of humility. And I was not even happy with the sounds that the players were making when they were in possession. That was a sign of arrogance,” the former school teacher said.
“We were playing against a very respectable brand and the team that plays really well. Now when you happen to beat them, don’t think you must embarrass them. Honestly speaking, I’ve got all the respect for the team. They have a very good team.”
Meanwhile, the Brazilians are going to get a chance to stretch their lead on the top of the log when they host Maritzburg United at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday (15h00).
