Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez defeated Briton Billy Joe Saunders at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the United States on Sunday (South African time).
Saunders didn’t come out of his corner at the beginning of the ninth round giving Alvarez his 56th win against a loss and two draws. Saunders dropped to 30 wins and a loss.
The 31-year-old Saunders received a proper pummelling from Alvarez, 30, in the eighth round and it’s suspected that the pummelling resulted in a fractured orbital.
The two fighters were fighting for the World Boxing Council (WBC) World Boxing Association (WBA) Super and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Super titles in the super-middleweight division.
