Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis is not going to underestimate Mozambique whom  they meet in a first round qualifier for the African Women’s Cup of Nations.
Ellis is also excited that at long last they are going to play competitive international football again as they seek to qualify for the 2022 tournament. The first leg is away in Mozambique on Sunday, 6 June.
“We are really excited that the draw for the qualifiers for 2022 AFCON has finally been concluded. There’s been a lot of uncertainty over the past 18 months in regards to the resumption of football and that has made it extremely difficult for teams to prepare for their competitive fixtures,” Ellis said.
“But coming back to the draw, we will face our neighbours Mozambique whom we know will be a tough opponent. We played them at the 2020 COSAFA Cup, but the result does not speak for anything. We will make sure that we prepare really well and we will also not underestimate any opponent.”
Banyana Banyana played international friendly matches against Zambia and Botswana recently. They used these matches to prepare for the qualifiers.
