Duncan Village-based boxing trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye believes that he made a good decision by roping in former boxer Yanga Gingxana as his assistant ahead of Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile’s fight against Martin Ward from the United Kingdom.
Fuzile faces Ward in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight elimination bout at the Michelo Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, in the United States.
The winner will fight against whoever wins between Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov from Tajikistan and Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa. The duo’s clash is scheduled for July.
“Yanga is my boy. He is my assistant. You should remember that Yanga is my former boxer. He knows our philosophy at the gym and it’s good to have someone like him,”, Njekanye confirmed.
Njekanye made it clear that Fuzile is ready even though they are experiencing some hiccups regarding visas.
“The visa issue is a battle, but we are confident that we will get our visas soon. We should not worry much. We are ready for the fight and nothing is going to distract us from our mission,” Njekanye said.
Njekanye has revealed that he does not need outside assistance as he continues to prepare Fuzile. He adds that he’s got capable personnel at his gym.
“I don’t use boxers from other stables when I’m preparing my boxers for their fights. Azinga used his stablemates as his sparring partners,” he said.
Meanwhile, former South African featherweight champion Fuzile also declared his readiness for the fight less than three weeks before he meets Ward.
“I have worked very hard training for this fight. I’m ready for the fight,” Fuzile said.
