The executive committee of the troubled Premier Soccer League (PSL) has resolved to seek an urgent appeal against the order handed down by acting Judge Nyathi of the Gauteng High Court on Monday evening.
Judge Nyathi interdicted the end of season PSL promotion/relegation play-offs, which were set to start on Tuesday.
“The PSL has been compelled to seek urgent relief as the last day of the official season is the 30th of June 2021. Many player contracts terminate on that date and any further delay in completing play-offs places the start of the 2021/22 season at risk,” the PSL statement read.
GladAfrica Championship side Royal AM approached the Gauteng High Court seeking to interdict the start of the play-offs. This followed after Judge Roland Sutherland had upheld arbitrator Hilton Epstein’s decision to award Sekhukhune United three points.
The awarding of the three points to Sekhukhune United meant that they got automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership something which didn’t go down well with Royal AM.
Sekhukhune United were awarded the three points after Pokolwane City failed to have five Under-23 players in their match day squad when the two sides met earlier this year.
