Chippa United defender-cum-midfielder Ayabulela Konqobe is honoured to have been part of the Bafana Bafana squad, which won the COSAFA Cup trophy this past weekend.
Bafana beat Senegal 5-4 on penalties after the two sides had drawn goalless in 120 minutes at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Sunday evening.
Konqobe, who was touted as a future Bafana player some years ago, got to play for the national team after COVID-19 hit the squad.
“It was an honour being part of the national set up again, especially a side that went on to win the cup. I’m truly honoured and blessed. The gold medal was nothing, but a reward,” Konqobe said.
The 25-year-old Konqobe was in familiar territory as the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is home to the Chilli Boys.
