Coach Desiree Ellis has dedicated Banyana Banyana’s triumph at them Aisha Buhari Cup in Nigeria to all South Africans.
Banyana Banyana lifted the Aisha Buhari Cup after a 4-2 win over the Nigerian Super Falcons at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria, on Tuesday evening.
“I think when I look back at the game, we controlled it most of the time. I thought we played at the tempo we wanted and also made them play at the tempo we wanted,” the triumphant Banyana Banyana coach remarked.
Banyana Banyana’s goals came from Chinwen Michelle Azolie’s own goal, Linda Motlhalo, Gabriela Salgado and Mamello Makhabane while Obinujuwan Ikechukwu scored a brace for the Super Falcons.
“We controlled all aspects of the game. Going into the second half we discussed that they were gonna come and we needed to stay concentrated. We didn’t do that. The two goals came really quickly. We made errors. We played the way we should not have,” Ellis said.
Meanwhile, the former Banyana Banyana captain has commended her players for hanging on until the end of the match.
“I think the players showed a lot of character, a lot of confidence. We got the penalty, we manage the game very well. This victory is not just for us here in Nigeria. The victory is for everyone back home,” she said.
