Filipino boxer Reymart Gaballo wants to face World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Nonito Donaire Junior instead of stepping aside and allow a mega fight between Donaire Jr and Johnriel Casimero, who is the current World Boxing Organisation (WBO) titlist.
Earlier this week, the WBC ordered Donaire Jr from the Philippines to defend against Gaballo, who is the WBC Interim bantamweight champion.
“I really want to fight my idol Nonito Donaire. It’s a big opportunity to fight Donaire,” the 25-year-old Gaballo told GMA News Online.
“I am a fighter and what l want is to fight and win. As a fighter, l will fight whoever it is they want me to fight. I believe in myself and when l enter the ring l do everything l can to win.”
The unbeaten Gaballo won the WBC lnterim title during a fight against Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodriguez last December.
On the other hand, Donaire Jr dethroned Frenchman Nordine Oubaali in May this year.
Meanwhile, the WBO has ordered Casimero to begin negotiations with mandatory challenger Paul Butler.
