Bafana Bafana’s impressive display in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers continued as they beat Ethiopia 3-1 at the Bahir Dar International Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Teboho Mokoena, Mothobi Mvala and Evidence Makgopa scored Bafana Bafana’s goals while Getaneh Kebede netted for the Ethiopians.
Bafana Bafana were on top of their game in the first 10 minutes. The Ethiopians only started playing after the 10th minute.
The Ethiopians kept on attacking and their effort was thwarted by Bafana Bafana captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who denied Suradel Dagnachew in the 26th minute.
Williams was once again called to make a save off Abubaker Nasri’s attempt in the 37th minute.
Bafana Bafana netted on the stroke of half time through Mokoena’s free kick. Ethiopian goalkeeper Fasil Gebremichael messed up with his butter fingers as he failed to hold on to Mokoena’s free kick after Aschalew Tamene had fouled Victor Letsoalo, who had come on for Tshegofatso Mabasa ln the 35th minute.
Kebede equalised for the Ethiopians from a free kick in the 67th minute. Mvala restored Bafana Bafana’s lead following a mix-up in the Ethiopia defence in the 70th minute.
Makgopa scored Bafana Bafana’s third goal from Bongokuhle Hlongwane assist in added time.
