Given a choice, former world champion Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi would never fight in East London.
The 32-year-old Komanisi, who is scheduled to face Kabelo Bikitsha in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African lightweight title fight at the Orient Theatre on Sunday, 12 December, has revealed that East London fight fans are hostile to him.
“I don’t like fighting in East London and I have told my promoter about that. I’m uncomfortable fighting in East London because of the abuse I get from the fans whenever I fight there,” Mdantsane-born Komanisi said.
“It’s better for me when I fight outside East London because people come to enjoy my boxing, not to verbally abuse me. I don’t know what my sin is.”
The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion added that he has spoken to his promoter Happy Tewo of Tewo Promotions and told him that he’s fighting for the last time in East London next month.
“My promoter and l have come to an agreement that this is my last fight in East London. In future I will be fighting either in Durban or Johannesburg,” Komanisi said.
