Siphosethu Mhlalo became the new African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC junior-bantamweight champion after he outpointed Mxolisi Sibiya at the Orient Theatre in East London.
The win means that Mhlahlo is now the second boxing champion to come from Chintsa in less than a year. His homeboy Asemahle Wellem won the South African super-middleweight title after he stopped Cowin Ray during their fight in October last year.
The new champion has now registered four victories and two defeats while Sibiya has dropped to four wins (three stoppages) and three losses.
Meanwhile, Siphesihle Sityo from Duncan Village retained his Eastern Cape mini-flyweight title after he registered a split decision victory over Mdantsane’s Qhamani Mhlana in his first defence of the provincial belt.
