Irish doctors are still monitoring the progress of former world champion Ludumo ‘9mm’ Lamati who remains at a hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he is receiving treatment.
Lamati landed in hospital after he collapsed in his corner shortly following his 12th round stoppage loss to Brit Nick Ball in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title fight at the SSE Arena on Saturday evening. The 31-year-old Mdantsane-born Lamati, who was stopped in 12th round, was then stretchered off the ring and rushed to hospital.
“Ludumo is still being closely monitored by the excellent doctors in Belfast. His vital signs are still stable and we are hoping that they will slowly stop the sedation from tomorrow onwards. This is a process that takes time and healing. Please continue to send positive thoughts and prayers,” a statement from Boxing5 Promotions, who promote Lamati, said on Monday.
The loss to Ball was the erstwhile South African and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight champion’s first career defeat as he dropped to 21 wins, a loss and draw.
