Three years of the violation of the South African Boxing Act, incompetence, total disregard of the rules and regulations have come to a screeching hault as Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa ushered a new era with the announcement of the incoming board of Boxing South Africa (BSA).

Boxing enthusiasts sighed with relief when Kodwa announced a new seven-member BSA board in Hatfield, Pretoria, on Tuesday morning with only Sakhiwe Sodo retained from the outgoing team.

Sifiso Shongwe is the new board chairperson as he will serve together with Luxolo September, Romy Titus, Princess Mangoma, Nande Mheshe, Sodo and Dr Mary-Gene Manthata-Setati.

Outgoing board members Luthando Jack, Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole, Khulile Radu, Gilberto Martins, Suren Maharaj and Azwitamisi Nthangeni have all been consigned to the scrapheap.

At least it’s not a ‘male choir’ this time around as the board is made up of four women and three men whose term will end in December 2026.
