Boxing trainer Sechaba Mabuya has insisted that his charge Thami ‘Bhubesi’ Luthuli doesn’t fear Mdantsane veteran boxer and former South African flyweight champion Thembelani Nxoshe.

Mabuya said this after Nxoshe’s handlers had said that Luthuli had developed cold feet as he chickened out of a fight against the Eastern Cape boxer on Saturday, 27 April.

Xaba Boxing Academy had approached Luthuli for a six rounds bout against Nxoshe. But Luthuli’s handlers declined the offer because of the number of rounds.

“They offered us a fight against Nxoshe. We didn’t take it because it was short notice. We are definifely not afraid of Nxoshe, we can fight against him any time,” Mabuya remarked.

“We, however, cannot fight Nxoshe is a six rounds bout because that wouldn’t be appropriate. We want a title fight or a 10 rounds bout against him and then we will see what he can offer inside the ring.”

Luthuli defeated Sphelele Myeza on points in a KwaZulu-Natal minimumweight title contest in KwaMashu, Durban, almost two months ago. Nkandla-born Luthuli, who is rated number five in South Africa, has six wins with one knockout and two draws.
