A symposium which is hoped to result in Boxing South Africa (BSA) getting financial injection from the corporate world is going to take place in Parktown, Johannesburg, on Friday morning.
According BSA accounting authority Mandla Ntlanganiso, this symposium follows a call made by Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa last year.
“We will be putting out a position of Boxing South Africa in terms of where we want to go moving forward. We won’t be able to achieve what we want to achieve without financial support. This symposium is an effort to galvanise the corporate sector to come on board and to support boxing,” Ntlanganiso said during an interview on Radio 2000’s Game On show on Wednesday evening.
Ntlanganiso added: “Minister of Sport on the 28th of November when announcing the interdicted board was clear when he said Boxing South Africa is an entity of government, but Boxing South Africa must be self sustainable. Boxing South Africa must be self reliant.”
Curently, BSA does not have a sponsorship as it relies heavily on the almost R20 million grant it gets from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
“At this particular moment, Boxing South Africa doesn’t even have one single sponsor, only dependent on a government grant. And it can’t be if we are serious about taking the sport forward,” Ntlanganiso said.
